I know we’ve said it before, but we are just loving everything Mara Hoffman Spring/Summer 2012. These images and the artistry behind them are amazingly beautiful. Her team just launched their online shop; and will be showing on Saturday during the Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week for Fall 2012.
Last night marked the opening of the Dandy Lion: Articulating a Re(de)fined Black Masculine Identity exhibit at the Reginald E. Lewis Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.
The event was well attended by people from various age cohorts, and the exhibit itself was beautifully curated by Shantrelle Lewis. Six of the photographers were there last night to represent their works, and mingle with guests.
If you find yourself in the Washington, DC area, take time to discover the artistic community, cafes and shops that Baltimore has to offer.
Here are a few images from the installation.
Enjoy…and go visit for yourself to read about each artist and their respective subjects. It’s worth it!

Dandy Lion: Articulating a Re(de)fined Black Masculine Identity
January 29 – May 13, 2012
Twenty emerging photographers and filmmakers present refreshing images of young black men who challenge popular notions of urban black masculinity. Guest curated by Shantrelle P. Lewis, this exhibition defies the negative image of the black male as “thug” and explores contemporary expressions of the “Black Dandy,” the sophisticated urban gentleman whose “swagger” engages both African aesthetics and elements of classical European fashion.

Nielsen’s 2011 Global Online Environment & Sustainability Survey states that only 20% of consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable goods. But with another stat securing consumer interest in eco-products, with 83% of consumers stating that environmental policies by companies are important, there seems to be a disconnect.
Can consumers have their cake and eat it too? With a demand on companies to be green, without a public consumer base to actually buy their products… it would seem that the answer is no. Unfortunately, the confusion seems to stem from the actual impact of eco-products and practices on sustaining our planet. Call it a bad side effect of greenwashing, but consumer doubt, coupled with hard economic times, is stifling eco-buying power.
All I can say is, yes- eco products do help sustain our planet. Even a small eco effort has a real impact. So if you can muster it, do what you can with your pocket book to help support eco-aware brands.
